The best shaker bottles with storage: carry the scoop, not the tub
A storage shaker solves one problem — the second shake of the day, mixed somewhere there is no tub of whey. The specification that decides it is not the bottle. It is how many cubic centimeters the jar holds, and whether anyone publishes the number.

#ad · Prices come live from Amazon, last checked November 4, 2026. Order is the author's pick for this page's buyer; the score is the rubric's judgment of the product against its whole category, from the maker's page (or the retailer's, where labeled) — the two can disagree, and the write-up says why. Product photos come from each product's Amazon listing; any photo that is illustrative stock is labeled as such. Tap a row for the full write-up.

The scoop is the spec
Every bottle on this page has a compartment. The question nobody answers in the product photo is whether the compartment holds a serving, and that turns on a number the marketing never prints: cubic centimeters against the volume of a real scoop.
A level scoop of most whey concentrate is roughly 30 to 35 grams of powder. Powder is not dense — a protein scoop occupies far more space than its weight suggests, which is why a jar that sounds generous in milliliters turns out to hold one serving and a dusting. Use this as the working rule and it will not let you down: treat 100 cc as one scoop, and 250 cc as two with room to pour.
Run the picks through that and the ranking writes itself.
- ProStak: 150 cc plus 100 cc. One generous serving and one lean one, or one two-scoop serving split across both jars. Enough for a day.
- Smartshake Original2Go: 150 ml plus 100 ml — the same arithmetic in the metric the maker uses, since a milliliter and a cubic centimeter are the same volume.
- Stanley Vitalize: 3 oz, which is about 89 cc. One scoop, and only just. Stanley is honest that the base is for "supplements or snacks" rather than a meal's worth of powder.
- ProStak Expansion Pak: 2 × 250 cc. This is the only genuinely two-scoop storage on the page, and it is also the only pick that is not a bottle.
If the whole reason you want storage is pre-workout rather than protein, the volumes stop mattering and the pill tray becomes the feature — a scoop of pre-workout is a fraction of a scoop of whey. The bottles built around that use case are ranked on best shaker bottle for pre-workout.
Compartment volumes, compared
| Pick | Storage, as published | Pill tray | Lid, in the maker's words | Dishwasher |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BlenderBottle ProStak (22 oz) | "150 cc jar, 100 cc jar" | Yes — "locks into any jar lid" | "Screw-on lid with secure flip cap creates leak-proof seal" | "Top-rack dishwasher safe" |
| Smartshake Original2Go (20 oz) | "100 ml / 3.5 oz and 150 ml / 5 oz" compartments | Yes — "pill separator that attach to the bottle" | "Leak-proof" — "100% guaranteed by our Smartshake Warranty" | "Dishwasher safe (top rack only)" |
| Stanley Vitalize (20 oz) | "3 oz Tritan base container (stamped measurements)" | No | "Leakproof Tritan lid" with a tethered hinge cap | "Dishwasher safe" |
| ProStak Expansion Pak | "2 extra-large 250cc jars" | Yes — "twist 'n lock pill storage tray" | No leak-proof claim for the jars | "Dishwasher safe" |
Each cell is that maker's or that listing's own published wording. Where the maker's page and the listing disagree, both are cited in Sources and the disagreement is stated on the product card.
Dry storage is not a seal
This is the mistake that ruins gym bags. The leak-proof claim on all four of these products covers the bottle lid, the thing that holds your mixed shake. It does not cover the jars.
BlenderBottle says the jars have "individual lids" that let you carry supplements and snacks with or without the bottle; it does not call them leak-proof, and it never claims they hold liquid. Smartshake's warranty-backed leak-proof claim is made for the bottle. Stanley calls the base a storage container, not a sealed vessel. So the honest rule is: jars are for dry powder. Put yogurt, oil or a pre-mixed drink in one and you will find out which seal was being described.
There is a second-order consequence that matters more than it sounds. A dry jar screwed to the bottom of a bottle full of cold liquid will sweat on the outside, and powder plus condensation equals a clump welded to the jar wall. On an insulated bottle like the Vitalize, double-wall vacuum insulation is the thing that prevents this, which is a real argument for the heaviest bottle on the page if the shake rides in a hot car.
What stacking costs you
Storage is not free. It costs height, and height is what decides whether the bottle lives in a side pocket or in your hand.
Assembled, the ProStak is 8.63 inches tall at 4.13 inches across. The Smartshake is 8.5 inches at 3.7 inches. The Stanley is 10.2 inches at 4.3 inches — taller than a 28 oz BlenderBottle, for a bottle that holds 20 ounces. In each case the compartment is a plinth under the bottle, which raises the center of gravity and makes a mesh side pocket a worse home than it is for a plain shaker.
It also costs capacity, which is the trade people notice second. These are 20 to 22 ounce bottles whose markings stop earlier still: the ProStak listing says the markings run to 16 oz; Smartshake's listing is blunter, that the bottle has "20-ounce capacity but measurement markings only go to 12-ounces". A two-scoop shake with enough water to be drinkable and enough air to shake does not fit in any of them. That is the whole reason the default recommendation on this site is a 28 oz bottle, and the arithmetic is on what size shaker bottle do I need.
Which leaves a genuinely useful conclusion: the best storage shaker for a lot of people is a plain 28 oz bottle plus a jar set that rides separately. That is exactly what the Expansion Pak is, and why it earns a slot on this page despite not being a bottle at all. If you want the bottle to mix a thick two-scoop shake first and carry powder second, buy from best shaker bottle and add jars.

Best shaker with storage overall
BlenderBottle ProStak (22 oz)
A 150 cc jar, a 100 cc jar and a pill tray that locks into any jar lid, under a screw-on lid BlenderBottle calls leak-proof, with the wire whisk that makes the Classic work. Extra jars are a stocked accessory rather than a discontinued part, which is what makes this a system instead of a gimmick.

What the spec page supports
- Two jars and a pill tray in the box, and extra jars are a stocked accessory rather than a discontinued part
- The wire whisk, so it mixes like a Classic instead of like a strainer bottle
- Jars screw together and work without the bottle attached
Where it falls short
- The capacity story is a mess: 22 oz on the listing, 20 oz in the maker's own kit line, markings only to 16 oz
- Stacked to full height it is nearly 8.7 inches and front-heavy in a side bottle pocket
- 150 cc is about one scoop of most whey — two-scoop preppers will want the Expansion Pak jars
- No insulation, and plastic holds protein smell like every plastic shaker
Skip this if…
…you mix two scoops in the bottle itself — 16 oz of readable markings does not leave shaking room for a double.

Best for the most powder in one bottle
Smartshake Original2Go (20 oz)
Two screw-on compartments at 150 ml and 100 ml, a leak-proof lid Smartshake guarantees outright, and a listing that confirms what the maker's page omits: top-rack dishwasher safe, microwave safe and freezer safe. Markings stop at 12 oz on a 20 oz bottle.

Best insulated bottle with a compartment
Stanley Vitalize Shaker Bottle (20 oz)
A 3 oz Tritan base container with measurements stamped into it, so the compartment doubles as the scoop, inside an 18/8 steel bottle rated cold 8 hours and iced 30. The compartment is the smallest here and the bottle is the heaviest.

- 8
- Capacity vs scoop math (15%)
- 5

What the spec page supports
- The 3 oz base container carries a scoop of pre-workout or a second serving of whey
- 8 hours cold and 30 hours iced, published, on a bottle you can also shake in
- Dishwasher safe in the maker's own words — rare on an insulated steel shaker
Where it falls short
- A strainer is not a mixer: thick casein or a mass gainer needs a whisk ball or a motor
- 20 oz is a one-scoop bottle once you allow room to shake
- 1.35 lb empty, and no stated warranty on the product page
Skip this if…
…you mix two scoops of anything thick — the strainer keeps lumps out of your mouth, it doesn't break them up, and 20 oz leaves no shaking room.

Best if you already own a ProStak
BlenderBottle ProStak Expansion Pak (2 × 250 cc)
Two 250 cc jars and a twist-lock pill tray — the two-scoop volume the ProStak's own jars do not reach, for a fraction of a new bottle. Fits nothing but a ProStak thread, and the jars carry no leak-proof claim.

What the spec page supports
- 250 cc per jar is the two-scoop size the ProStak's own 150 cc jar is not
- Jars carry on their own, so one can live in a desk drawer with the day's pre-workout
- The cheapest thing on this page by a wide margin
Where it falls short
- Useless on its own — it only fits the ProStak thread
- No leak-proof claim on the jars, so they are for dry powder, not liquids
- BlenderBottle's own page for it publishes almost nothing; the volumes come from the listing
Skip this if…
…you do not already own a ProStak — buy the bottle kit first, because these jars fit nothing else.

Buyer's guide
How many servings do you actually need to carry?
One serving is the common case — the post-workout shake, mixed at the gym. Any of these bottles covers it, and the cheapest one wins. Two servings is where the field narrows to the Expansion Pak's 250 cc jars, because 150 cc is one scoop and a half. Three or more and you are not shopping for a shaker; you are shopping for a small tub, and a sealed 1-cup container from a food-storage set will do it better and cheaper.
Does the compartment need to double as a measure?
Stanley is alone here: the 3 oz Tritan base has measurements stamped into it, so you can fill the compartment instead of carrying a scoop. Everyone else expects you to drop the scoop in with the powder, which works and is one more thing to lose. If you count macros to the gram, neither approach replaces weighing — that is what a food scale for macros is for, and the method is on how to use a food scale for macros.
Plastic or steel?
Steel buys you insulation and loses you the dishwasher-and-microwave freedom of plastic — Smartshake's listing states microwave and freezer safe, which no steel bottle will. Steel also roughly triples the weight: the Vitalize is 1.39 lb empty against 0.53 lb for the ProStak. Take steel only if the mixed shake has to survive hours in a vehicle. The wider trade is argued on best stainless steel shaker bottle.
How does it mix?
Two of these use a wire whisk (the ProStak's BlenderBall), one uses a snap-on strainer net (Smartshake), and one uses a removable strainer at the spout (Stanley). The whisk is the only mechanism that breaks lumps up rather than holding them back, which matters for casein and mass gainers and barely matters for a thin whey isolate. If you want no agitator at all, the ball-free designs are on best shaker bottle without ball.
Will the jars still be available in two years?
This is the quiet reason the ProStak tops the page. Its jars are a stocked accessory the maker still sells as the Expansion Pak, under a limited lifetime guarantee on the bottle. Smartshake's compartments are part of the product, not a catalog item. Stanley's base container is the same. Lose a lid on either and you are buying another bottle — a repeat of the replacement-lid problem that decides most container purchases, as on when to replace plastic containers.
A listing we would not buy from
One budget storage shaker we checked is sold with a title claiming 24 oz while the maker's own page states 16 oz, and with feature bullets describing stainless steel double-wall construction on a bottle the same title calls BPA-free plastic. Both documents are in Sources. We are not ranking it: when a maker cannot keep its own capacity straight, the compartment volume it does not publish is not worth guessing at.
How Meal & Macro picks gear
Researched, compared and scored
Every pick starts with the maker's own product page and manual: the lid, material and care ratings in its exact wording ("leak-proof", "oven safe to 450°F", "top-rack only"), the container-fit and ice-pack arithmetic worked out from published dimensions and the USDA's numbers, and a score on a public rubric for the category that weights the seal, the material and the fit first. Models are compared side by side, so each page lands on one clear pick per use case with the reason stated. Every figure links to where it came from; where the maker's page would not load we cite a retailer and say so.
Scores are editorial judgments built from that documented research. Commissions never set a score or decide a pick. The rubrics and their weights are published.
Questions
Frequently asked
What is the best shaker bottle with a storage compartment?
The BlenderBottle ProStak. It ships a 150 cc jar, a 100 cc jar and a pill tray that locks into any jar lid, under a screw-on lid the maker calls leak-proof, and extra jars are still sold as an accessory. The Smartshake Original2Go is the alternative if you want the leak-proof claim backed by an explicit warranty.
How much protein powder fits in a shaker bottle compartment?
Roughly one scoop per 100 cc. A 150 cc jar takes one generous serving, a 250 cc jar takes two with room to pour, and Stanley's 3 oz base container (about 89 cc) takes one and only just. Powder is bulkier than its weight suggests, so do not plan on a 100 cc jar swallowing a 35 g scoop plus creatine.
Can you put liquid in the storage jars?
No. The leak-proof claims on all of these products describe the bottle lid, not the jars. BlenderBottle calls the jar lids "individual lids" without a leak-proof claim, Stanley calls its base a storage container, and Smartshake's warranty covers the bottle. Jars are for dry powder and pills.
Is a storage shaker better than carrying a separate tub?
For one or two servings, yes — it is one object instead of two, and the powder rides sealed instead of in a zip bag. For three or more, a plain 28 oz bottle plus a small sealed container is lighter and holds more, because a storage shaker trades bottle capacity for jar volume. We size bottles properly on what size shaker bottle do I need.
Do the compartments go in the dishwasher?
All four are rated dishwasher safe, three of them top-rack only: BlenderBottle states "top-rack dishwasher safe" for the ProStak and "dishwasher safe" for the Expansion Pak jars, Smartshake's listing states "dishwasher safe (top rack only)", and Stanley states "dishwasher safe". Take the jars off the bottle first so water reaches both threads.
Does a shaker with storage fit a car cupholder?
The Stanley Vitalize does — Stanley publishes cupholder compatibility and a recessed grip. The ProStak at 4.13 inches across and the Smartshake at 3.7 inches are borderline-to-fine, but both are top-heavy with a full jar underneath, which is a different failure mode from not fitting. Travel bottles are ranked on best shaker bottle for travel.
