The two jobs
Unattended cooking and holding. A pot of rice on a stove needs watching; a micom cooker needs a button, and it switches itself to keep-warm when it's done — Zojirushi prints "automatic keep warm, extended keep warm and reheating cycle", CUCKOO lists keep warm and reheat among its modes, Aroma says it "automatically switches to Keep Warm". That is what lets you roast the chicken, steam the vegetables and portion everything from one warm pot at the end. The delay timer is the other half: rice that starts itself at 4 p.m. is done when you walk in. Uncooked and cooked figures as the makers print them; the tilde figures are the usual roughly-doubling of rice cooked in a cooker, not measured.

Buyer's guide
Micom or basic?
A micom (microcomputer) cooker adjusts time and temperature by rice type — Zojirushi's and CUCKOO's menus list white, brown, porridge, mixed grains and more. A basic cooker boils until the water is gone. For brown rice and quinoa, micom; for white rice only, the Aroma's white/brown switch is enough.
The pan
Zojirushi states its NS-TPC pan is "free of PFAS (including PTFE and PFOA) and BPA on all areas that come in contact with food". CUCKOO prints "nonstick coating". Aroma prints a "Bonded Granite" nonstick it calls dishwasher safe. The Instant Pot's is bare stainless — the only one with nothing to scratch off.
Steam tray
Aroma includes one that cooks vegetables above the rice; Zojirushi includes a steaming basket. That is a whole meal component cooked for free during the rice cycle — worth more to a meal-prepper than any menu setting.

Plenty of sites say they packed every container on the list for a week. We didn't, and we say so. What we do instead: read the lid, material and care ratings the maker actually publishes and repeat its wording ("leak-proof", "oven safe to 450°F", "top-rack only"), do the container-fit and ice-pack arithmetic from published dimensions and the USDA's numbers, and score every pick on a public rubric for its category that weights the seal, the material and the fit first. Every figure links to where it came from; where the maker's page would not load we cite a retailer and say so.

How much rice does a 5.5-cup rice cooker make?
About 10–11 cups cooked from 5.5 cups uncooked — roughly ten lunch portions at a cup each.
Can I leave rice on keep-warm overnight?
Keep-warm holds rice hot, but the plan is to portion and refrigerate the same evening. Cooked rice follows the USDA's cool-within-2-hours and 3–4-day rules like any leftover.
Is a rice cooker better than an Instant Pot for rice?
For rice alone — brown-rice programs, extended keep-warm — yes. For one appliance that also pressure-cooks chicken and beans, the Instant Pot.
Are rice cooker pans dishwasher safe?
Aroma says its inner pot is; Instant Pot says its stainless pot is. Zojirushi and CUCKOO don't state it on the pages we read — hand wash those.
