The verdict
Two latches with vents vs four tabs with a gasket
Brilliance uses two latches on the short ends over a gasket, with steam vents under the latches. Rubbermaid's wording is "100% airtight, leak-proof seal and secure latches" and "built-in vents under the latches allow steam to escape so you can microwave food splatter-free, without removing the lid." The lids are universal across the Brilliance line — plastic and glass bases share them — and the plastic is Rubbermaid's StainShield, which the maker says is stain- and odor-resistant.
Glasslock uses four tabs, one per edge, over a removable silicone gasket. The distributor FAQ calls the seal airtight and leak-proof; Glasslock's own guidance is to never microwave with the lid closed, because the seal is complete and the pressure has nowhere to go. Four tabs clamp more evenly than two — a corner is less likely to lift on an overfull container — at the cost of four hinges instead of two.
Which room: microwave, oven, bag
Microwave. Brilliance, and it isn't close: the vented lid is designed to stay on. Glasslock says lid off. If you reheat five meals a week at a desk, that's five fewer splattered microwaves.
Oven. Glasslock's oven series (marked OVEN SAFE on the base) is rated to 230°C; Brilliance plastic isn't oven-rated at all; Brilliance Glass bases are rated to 450°F. If the meal is roasted vegetables you want crisp again, glass.
Bag. Brilliance plastic. It weighs a fraction of Glasslock and makes the same leak-proof claim. Glasslock in a backpack is a heavy backpack with a small chance of a chipped rim. The weight math, with the rest of the glass-versus-plastic argument, is on glass vs plastic.
Five years from now. Glasslock's glass will be unchanged; its gaskets aren't sold separately in the US, so a torn one means a new lid. Brilliance plastic will be clouded where it's been scratched; the maker's page didn't load for us, so we couldn't verify a replacement-lid program. Neither page publishes the warranty terms we'd want, which is one reason Snapware — lifetime lid warranty — keeps showing up on the overall ranking.

Can you microwave Rubbermaid Brilliance with the lid on?
Yes — the maker's own wording is to microwave "without removing the lid" because the vents under the latches let steam out. Open the latches so the vents work.
Can you microwave Glasslock with the lid on?
No. The distributor FAQ says the lid should never be closed while reheating; the seal is complete and pressure builds.
Is Rubbermaid Brilliance oven safe?
The plastic line isn't. The Brilliance Glass bases are rated to 450°F; the lids stay out of the oven.
Do Brilliance lids fit the glass and plastic containers?
