The verdict
Capacity: the deciding number
Smartshake prints 600 ml / 20 oz for the bottle. BlenderBottle prints 28 oz for the Classic (and 20 and 45 oz siblings). Two scoops of whey plus 12 oz of liquid is about 15 oz before shaking; in a 20 oz bottle that leaves 5 oz of headroom, which is a sloshing shake, not a mixing one. In 28 oz it leaves 13. If you drink singles — one scoop, 8–10 oz — the Smartshake's 20 oz is plenty and the argument moves on to storage.
The compartments
Smartshake's page: "two detachable storage compartments, that fits at the bottom", 100 ml / 3.5 oz and 150 ml / 5 oz. A scoop of whey is roughly 30 g and fits the small one with room; the large one takes a second scoop or a day of capsules. They screw onto the base and add height. BlenderBottle offers nothing built in; the Classic is a bottle. For someone who mixes a shake at 6 a.m. and a second at 2 p.m. from the same bottle, the compartments replace a baggie of powder in a gym bag, and that is a real convenience.
Seal, mixing, washing, warranty
Seal. BlenderBottle: "leakproof" with a flip cap that doesn't lock. Smartshake: "leak-proof", "100% guaranteed by our Smartshake Warranty". Both claims are the maker's; Smartshake backs its with a warranty statement on the product page.
Mixing. BlenderBottle prints its mechanism: the BlenderBall wire whisk in a rounded-base bottle. Smartshake's page doesn't describe the mixing element at all, so it scores lower on the mechanism metric for lack of a published claim, not for a known weakness.
Washing. BlenderBottle: all parts dishwasher safe per its FAQ. Smartshake: "wide opening for simple cleaning", no dishwasher rating printed. Two compartments are two more threaded parts to dry.
Material and warranty. Both BPA-free (Smartshake adds DEHP-free). BlenderBottle prints a limited lifetime guarantee; Smartshake prints a leak-proof warranty and a durability claim of "a decade or more" without stated terms.
